Lemonade Day National Announces Winner for Inaugural Wyler’s Light Sponsored National Best Tasting Lemonade Contest

HOUSTON, Texas (July10, 2019) – Wyler’s Light and Lemonade Day searched for flavorful and creative lemonade recipes from young business owners as the sponsor and host, respectively, of Lemonade Day’s inaugural National Best Tasting Contest. On June 28 in Houston, Tex., Lemonade Day judges declared seven-year-old Houston Suter of College Station, Tex. as the winner with his Ginger Lemonade Sorbet recipe. He received a $300 gift card plus national recognition via Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms managed by Wyler’s Light and Lemonade Day.

Wyler’s Light contributed $10,000 to support the 2019 National Best Tasting Lemonade Contest and provided the $300 prize. Local Best Tasting Contest winners in participating Lemonade Day cities were eligible to submit their recipes and photos as part of the competition. Contestants were scored on creativity, originality, clarity of ingredients and measurements, and clarity of instructions.  Lemonade Day then re-created the three highest-scoring recipes to make final judgements based on taste.

Suter shared his successful winning strategy. “After last year’s [Lemonade Day Bryan/College Station]Best Tasting Lemonade Contest, we talked about trying to put the next year’s entry in a hollowed-out lemon for judging to make it stand out from the others. My mom helped me look for a special recipe online and the Ginger Lemonade Sorbet was a favorite. We found some little buckets in the store that fit inside the hollowed-out lemons perfectly. I was so excited to win Best Tasting Lemonade for [my hometown] Bryan/College Station!”

Lemonade Day, a national youth entrepreneurship program that teaches kids how to start and operate their own business by hosting a lemonade stand in their community, operates in more than 80 licensed markets in the United States, Canada and other countries.  The program targets young kids of kindergarten through middle school age. Kids who participate in Lemonade Day register for free and have access to printed and digital teaching tools that help guide them through the launching and hosting of their own lemonade stands then encourage them to save some, spend some, and share some of the profits they earn with a cause that matters to them.

“Wyler’s Light is the perfect sponsor for our inaugural Lemonade Day National Best Tasting Contest. The Wyler’s Light team graciously distributed lemonade mixes, coupons, and novelty stickers to our young Lemonade Day participants this spring in 18markets and funded he cost of the ingredients that were used by the Lemonade Day National Best Tasting Contest judges for recipe testing. We Lemonade Day leaders appreciate that Wyler’s Light products represent an affordable and convenient alternative to high calorie sodas and juices. Because Wyler’s Light appeals to families with young children, Wyler’s Light consumers are likely to be mentoring or raising kids like the ones we are targeting for our youth entrepreneurship program,” commented Steven Gordon, Lemonade Day national president. “Wyler’s Light is readily available in supermarkets, dollar stores, drug stores and online in a wide range of flavors and packages, and we will benefit from the extensive brand reach that Wyler’s Light enjoys.”

Wyler’s Light brand ambassadors traveled to Houston in May to sample homemade lemonade recipes and interview young lemonade business owners during Lemonade Day activities hosted in a wide range of venues—farmer’s markets, parks and churches, to name a few.

“For decades, Wyler’s Light has been proud to be an integral part of the communities we serve,” said Kyle Harrington, director of marketing for Wyler’s Light. “We are thrilled to continue our efforts through this partnership with Lemonade Day and support a generation of young entrepreneurs and future leaders.”
